Demolição da Igreja Matriz de Sant’ana: o antigo e o moderno no imaginário social ponta-grossense

Resumo

No estudo sobre o processo de demolição do antigo prédio da Igreja Matrizde Sant’Ana na cidade de Ponta Grossa, no Paraná, deparou-se com questõesrelativas à memória, à preservação do patrimônio edificado, à busca pelo progresso eao conseqüente confronto entre o antigo e o moderno. Foi possível constatar que obispado utilizou-se da instituição de um discurso legitimador ao apresentar o projetode uma nova e moderna Matriz como um novo marco para a história de Ponta GrossaAlegaram-se problemas de insegurança na estrutura física do antigo prédio como ummotivo premente de demolição, enfatizando-se inclusive “riscos de desabamento”.Conquistou-se, pouco a pouco, o imaginário social ponta-grossense, pois era omomento em que se buscava o novo e o moderno como elemento essencial para umalmejado progresso. A demolição do antigo prédio veio a evidenciar esse momento.

ABSTRACT: In the study of the process of demolishing the old building of the Churchof Sant'Ana in the city of Ponta Grossa, Parana, faced with issues of memory, thepreservation of built heritage, the quest for progress and the resulting clash betweenthe old and modern. It was found that the bishopric was used to the imposition of alegitimizing discourse by presenting the design of a new modern matrix as a newmilestone in the history of Ponta Grossa claimed to security problems in the physicalstructure of the old building as a reason urgent demolition, including emphasis on"risk of collapse." The won was little by little, the social imaginary ponta-grossense, itwas the moment they craved the new and modern as essential for a desired progress.The demolition of the old building has come to show this time.
