O símbolo de uma história escolhida: o patrimônio cultural e a difícil tarefa de construir a memória da ditadura

Resumo: Nos últimos anos, a discussão no Brasil acerca da elucidação doscrimes cometidos pelo Estado durante a Ditadura Civil-Militar (1964-1985) vemganhando espaço na sociedade. Com isso, as disputas sobre os lugares dememória e as rememorações do período suscitaram questionamentos sobre aatuação da preservação do patrimônio cultural como “refrigério” da culturaoficial, num movimento de lembrar e esquecer, preservar e destruir causadopelas tensões intrínsecas ao tema. Este ensaio busca apresentar brevepanorama da preservação de “lugares de memória” deste período, em especialo edifício do Antigo Dops, em perspectiva com o edifício da ESMA, na cidade deBuenos Aires.Palavras-chave: ditadura civil-militar; patrimônio; memória

Abstract: In recent years, the discussion in Brazil about the elucidation of thecrimes committed by the state during the Civil-Military Dictatorship (1964-1985) has been gaining ground in society. As a result, disputes over places ofmemory and recollections of the period have raised questions about the role ofpreservation of cultural heritage as a place to “take comfort” of the officialculture, a movement to remember and forget, preserve and destroy caused bythe tensions inherent to the subject. This essay seeks to present a briefoverview of the preservation of “places of memory” of this period, especiallythe building of the Antigo DOPS in perspective with the building of the ESMA, inBuenos Aires.Keywords: Civil-Military Dictatorship; heritage; memory
